Abstract

We describe how CDC epidemiologists used social media to follow official outbreak information released by WHO and China during the H7N9 outbreak. We discuss why Twitter and weibo are useful tools for epidemiologists in emergency response.

Dr. Fung was formerly a Prevention Effectiveness Fellow at the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, USA. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at Georgia Southern University Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health.
